Bangladesh Society of Medical Microbiologists (BSMM) is an official organization of the medical microbiologists who are working in Bangladesh. The medical microbiologists initially formed ‘The Forum for the Medical Microbiologists’ in 1999 guided by a convening committee. The convenor of the committee was Prof. Md. Nazrul Islam, Joint Convenor Prof. Md. Ruhul Amin Mian and the Member Secretary Dr. Nurul Alam. The first convention of the Forum was held in 2000 and Bangladesh Society of Medical Microbiologists (BSMM) was formed with the founder President Prof. Tehmina Hussain and the Secretary General Prof. Ruhul Amin Mian and the other pioneer medical microbiologists of Bangladesh.

This organization has now more than 500 members. They are serving in the clinical laboratories of different corners of this country as well as working as teaching staff in the graduate and post graduate courses in different medical colleges and the medical universities of Bangladesh. They have been playing vital roles in the diagnosis of various outbreaks including the pandemics of SARS COV-2. Microbiology gives endless opportunities for research, publications, presentations and teaching.
